Darling reader,

Today is the 2nd birthday of my book baby, Red Tarot: A Decolonial Guide to Divinatory Literacy! 🥳

Let me share a lil excerpt from Chapter Two to set the scene:

“Where One is the selfhood’s subjectivity, Two is the confrontation with the other. At large, Two becomes the power and shape of knowledge. Two is prism, whereby we step into the mirror, easily to be confused in the binary thinking of domination. One would side with their oppressor so long as they are unable to see themselves in clear connection with the plight of the oppressed.

Until the image that Two reflects inspires solidarity, One will stand alone, severed from truth, alienated from humanity. Two gives relatedness, distorted by the binaries of white supremacy. Colonial subjects become ethnocentric, conditioned to the set standard against whiteness, whereby status, power, and privilege are reserved for whatever is not Black.

White supremacy exists on a spectrum of anti-Blackness. As anti-Blackness became the economic model for global imperialism, conquistadors and slave masters stripped the world bare to create commodity. Bodies born of relation became capital for the One, the Monarch, the King, the Capitalist. Whiteness is about perception, as its class construction has historically been shifting and malleable. It is a state whereby one refuses to see.

To be precise, it is not a sacrifice, which can only be made by personal consent; it is theft. It refuses to give, so it takes. If the self is created in its offering, whiteness dehumanizes by stealing our offering. Whiteness exists in the perversion of exchange into dichotomies of domination.”

Chris Marmolejo, Red Tarot

Have y’all enjoyed Red Tarot over these past couple of years? I hope it has served you well, that it has moved you in someway subtle or signifcant.

Having a book published is certainly an interesting way to mark time, to make reading and re-reading, writing and re-writing, a mode to make visible the holy repetition of craft.

Anyhow, I wanted to do something pip to celebrate the moment with everyone and so I’m hosting a lil reading event online this Saturday, March 7th at 2pm pst 🥰

I’ll pull some cards for us, using the book for bibliomancy and to read the intrepretations offered therein. If you have questions about craft or Red Tarot in general, I’d be happy to get into it, and of course would welcome any shares on how you’ve been living with Red Tarot, and divination at large.

Of course this will be a free event, so feel free to tell a friend, but if you want to support the work it would mean the world if you left a review on Goodreads or Amazon, or gifted the book to a friend!

I know it’s a last minute invite, but the inspiration hit me and I’d love to have you there darling reader!

May it be a moment of joy as radiant as the moment it was birthed into the world!

x,

Christopher
