It’s my finally my favorite season the year! The world oranges, reddens and then becomes more brown before finally being bare once again. Mariah has whispered softly into the wind with a 16th studio album and like so many of her previous moments, the music marks Fall for timeless melody.

Fall, with all of its shedding, always brings me to consider longevity. Writing, and writing books, is a marathon sport. The runner’s high is real but more often its persisting on the winding path while sweating profusely, working a mantra to keep from collapsing and wondering what in the hell you’ve signed yourself up for. In a marathon there is no eject option. However long it takes, the only way out is to finish. But my God, the satisfaction of seeing it all the way through. Who knows who will read the words you write, or when? It’s a spacious motivating mystery for me.
